I am extremely pleased and proud to announce a major collaboration with renowned traditional English leatherworkers, Tanner Bates. We have worked together to combine their exquisite workmanship, choice of sustainable leathers and my designs to create two unique leather journal covers which provide enduring protection for notebooks. Design collaborations bring together people, each with their own perspectives and strengths, to deliver a consistent, high-quality and winning combination. The genuine leather goods by Tanner Bates are handmade from the best quality speciality leathers. These come from smaller tanneries and use traditional processes that produce leather that lasts and is full of character. The Tanner Bates team design, prepare, cut, sew and finish their beautiful leather goods using methods of crafting leather in the traditional way with minimal waste. The pocket size cahier leather cover fits Moleskine pocket size refill notebooks. The design embossed in the leather is a recurring symmetric star pattern that increases in size based on mathematical and fibonacci universal rules. The Oak Bark leather is from Bakers Tannery in Colyton, East Devon. They tan their hides with oak bark from the Lake District in huge underground pits after which the hides are hand finished. It is a process that takes almost two years and is a far cry from the automated factory production of modern world tanneries. Each hide Tanner Bates use is unique and so no two products are the same. Their leather is ethically and sustainably processed. The tannery uses a mixture of tree barks to transform the animal hides to leather. This is an ancient tradition which yields the familiar leather smell. The large journal leather cover which fits Moleskine large refill notebooks has an embossed floral design influenced by stylised suzani (traditional hand embroidered silk cloths) flowers. The designs provide topography, texture and elegance to the leather. The motifs were believed to imbue the suzanis with spiritual powers, offering protection or strength to their owners. The Saddle Tan Italian Full Grain Leather comes from tanneries in Florence, Italy, known for their sumptuous hides. The tannery still use the ancient method of tanning with bark from mimosa and chestnut trees rather than chemicals, to slowly transform the hides into leather. Together, our two brands have created an exclusive product line of unique design and quality. Find out more about Tanner Bates and their beautiful products at www.tannerbates.co.uk |
